SmartGirl Editor Tiffany reviews: Watch out, Miley Cyrus! In the Disney Channel's new movie, Camp Rock, Demi Lovato shines as Mitchie Torres, a sweet, talented teenage girl who finds out that summer music camp is about way more than just music. If you like Disney's recent musical movies, this one is a must-see! Mitchie thinks she'll never attend Camp Rock because her parents can't afford to send her, but fate intervenes and her caterer mom lands a job as the Camp Rock chef, meaning Mitchie can go but only if she helps her mom in the kitchen between sessions. At camp, she finds herself torn between the desire to fit in and the desire to be herself, and throughout the movies, she struggles to figure out which is most important. This dilemma is fueled by her crush on Shane Gray (played by Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers), a pop star and celebrity instructor at the camp. What's a girl to do? You'll have to watch the movie to find out, but as Mitchie confronts her fears and embraces her talent, she learns a lot of lessons about honesty and what it means to be true to yourself. This pop-rock Cinderella story is fun, upbeat and full of catchy tunes performed by Demi, the Jonas Brothers and other Disney singers. Though it's hard to imagine a camp like this existing (the campers' performances have more stage lighting than a real live concert!), it's still fun to watch and cheer Mitchie on. If pop musicals aren't your taste, you'll probably want to steer clear of Camp Rock, but if you enjoy a classic story set to new tunes, check this out! What do you think of this review? |
