Congratulations, Nicole! The many metaphors you used in your poem to refer to expressions, feelings, and personalities were beautiful. You expressed betrayal, deception, and newfound wisdom through fire, shattered glass, shadows, mist, and wind. These symbols combined created an environment of post-destruction within your poem, which leaves us with one question: what was destroyed that you are talking about? There Is Fire In Your Eyes

There is fire in your eyes,
a flicker of the past,
a shadow of the lies
that swallowed up the sky.

You never were that person
that is only shattered glass.
It's a cold reflection; broken,
that will never fit again.

There is a lantern in your eyes,
a flicker of your pain,
your hidden tears and silent cries
that echo through the mist.

It will never fit again, I say.
Breathe the wind and look away.
