SmartGirl Summer Job Survey Results

Summer Jobs

You girls sure know how to work hard and play hard! At this point, you are growing up and taking on some more responsibilities. The summers of the past; staying home, watching television, playing in the pool, just don't cut it anymore. You keep things going this summer with a good mix of work and play.

Smartgirl asked: "What is the best summer job you have ever had? What was so good about it?"

Here's what some of you had to say about the working world:

"My best summer job was babysitting. I love being around children and I babysat a little boy that was a toddler and a new born baby girl"
--Girl, 19 USA

"My best summer job was my first one, working at Hungry Howie's Pizza. The job itself sucked but the people I worked with were so much fun. They were all teenagers and we played around more then we worked. The first job you have is usually your best"
--Girl, 19 USA

"Helping beginners to learn to ride horses because it made them so happy"
--Girl, 17 Canada

"This is the only job I've ever had, I still enjoy it because I have a lot of freedom. I don't work at the same place as my bosses, so I've learned how to run things for myself."
--Girl, 17, Australia

"I think my fave will be the job I'm just starting-acting at a local dinner theatre. I love the play we're doing! (Annie)"
--Girl, 14 USA

What is the worst job you have ever had? What was so bad about it?

"The worst job I've ever had was working in an administration office and it's totally boring! Everyone is doing their work and they don't even talk 2 ya!"
--Girl, 16 Australia

"Cleaning yards, I hated doing that. I worked for a company, but it was worth it (because) I got paid a lot"
--Girl, 13 USA

"Walking dogs. That was bad because I hate dogs and most of them were large dogs. I did it for the cash."
--Girl, 16 USA

"I've never had a bad job; hey, if I don't think I'll like it then I don't do it."
--Girl, 16 Canada

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you at a summer job?

"Well during the summer camp a lot of funny things happened. I think that the best thing was when my friend Dawn lost her camper, Bobby in an amusement park. It wasn't REALLY funny, but I can laugh at her for it"
--Girl, 14 USA

"I was with kids at lunch and this kid threw a piece of cake in the monitor's face."
--Girl, 13 Canada

""I worked in a cafe once and was taking someone's order over to their table when I tripped and fell and spilled coffee over their lap! To make it even worse... she had ordered tea."
--Girl, 15 England

Do you like having a summer job? Why or why not?

"I do because it's at my horseback riding stable and I can actually enjoy the work I do-- it's not a pain to have to go out everyday and work my butt off in 115 degrees."
--Girl, 13 USA

"I like my summer job because it earns me money and I am working with a lot of my friends."
--Girl, 13 Ireland

"Yeah, because a lot of hot guys come in, and all summer clothes are 40% off!!!"
--Girl, 16 USA

"Yes, for money. No, because it cuts into my sleep and reading time"
--Girl, 17 USA

"I think I would like to have a summer job because it prepares you for the future, especially if you're around this age"
--Girl, 15 USA
