Prologue: Victoria's Introduction

I had four sisters: Daisy, Tara, Elizabeth, and Rose. We lived in a mansion along the hill in Berry Lane. Elizabeth was the eldest, followed by rose, then Daisy, then me, and the youngest was Tara.

We had beautiful, long ball gown dresses for dinner parties at night when my best friend Rupert would get his orchestra to play music for us. We had winter dresses for every day of the week. My personal favorite was my red dress with the fur along the collar. I had solid gold buttons all the way down the front. My grandmother bought it for me with specially-made red gloves to match. I'd wear it with black ankle boots and long stockings to keep me warm.

Rupert always commented on my dress every time I wore it. He'd say, "You know you look so beautiful every time you wear that dress, Victoria! The red looks absolutely beautiful with your dark, chocolate brown hair and brown eyes. You have men falling at your feet!"
